Due to the weak economic climate and falling revenue projections, the state’s transportation program has taken yet another hit. Priority has been placed on maintenance to preserve the current infrastructure and to complete funding on existing construction projects. As a result, funding for Hillsdale Drive Extension’s construction phase has been pushed back to sometime after 2016 in the Six Year Improvement Program. This prioritization criteria was also used to determine Virginia’s share of the stimulus funding. The area will benefit by some repaving projects and a minor interchange improvement in the County; however, Hillsdale Drive Extension did not capture any stimulus dollars. Staff continues to explore additional funding opportunities/grant programs and remains hopefully that the generous donation of right of way from adjacent property owners will impress upon officials the need for the project and demonstrated support from the community.
